Like I mentioned in my birthday list, 2012 has been the year of destination weddings. And I am such a fan.

Two weeks ago, my good friend Jaymee had the most amazing wedding in Santa Barbara. And even though SB is only an hour north of where we live, John and I decided to turn the long weekend into a mini vacation. It definitely turned out to be one of the best ideas we’ve had in the many years we’ve been together. The first night we stayed near the harbor in Ventura and the next two nights were spent in picturesque Carpinteria. During the day, we traipsed all over Solvang, Santa Barbara, Montecito, and even Oxnard for a little Cafe Rio.

In case I haven’t mentioned it in the past fifteen minutes or so, I LOVE California. End of story.

Despite the fact that the temperature reached the triple digits today (insert expletive here), I am so thrilled that it’s finally October.

The way I see it, October is perfectly positioned between the long, hot days of summer and the frenetic but always fun holiday madness. The Halloween / Thanksgiving / Christmas excitement is starting to brew, but not enough to overwhelm my to-do list. The sun begins to set earlier and earlier. The weather (knock on wood) cools down and entices me to spend more time outdoors. The leaves on the trees begin to change colors. Three words: pumpkin spice lattes. Three more words: boots, scarves, sweaters.

But the very best part of all is that (historically speaking) this is the time of year when my creative mojo shoots through the roof. Last night I downloaded the app Teux Deux on my iPhone and instantly filled the “Someday” section with several projects that I want to try, products that I want to make, and photos that I want to take. I also began to make a list of goals for myself, including waking up earlier, staying organized, going to yoga more often, drinking more tea instead of coffee, saving up to buy a new camera, etc. My brain was shooting off ideas faster than my fingers could type (which is the very best kind of problem to have)! I can’t wait to dig in…

Happy October!

Oh man, I am SO glad it’s Saturday, how about you? I am snug as a bug on this cozy, rainy Saturday morning. Took an awesome kickboxing class at the gym followed by a hot shower followed by PJ’s, a cup of coffee, and a warm blanket as I type this out. Now THAT is what I’m talking about (: And since I have no idea where this post is going, I will share a few random things/thoughts with you…

Last night I went on a little bit of a shopping spree. Not sure where my willpower went, but I am sure that I love my new winter clothes from Gap (they’re having a major sale this weekend!) and my brand new coffee maker! In my defense, I was in dire need of a new coffee maker given that the old one was leaking coffee all over my countertops and making my mornings more hectic than usual. Not good. So, of course, I bought a sleek white one and I love the way it looks! It’s no espresso machine (maybe one of these days…), but I love it just the same. And as for the clothes…well, you can never have too many pairs of jeans, right? (;

Additionally, I went on a major cleaning + purging spree with my craft stash around 10 o’clock last night. I’m only halfway done, but the pile is mountainous! I’m already feeling so much better about it already! Can’t believe it took me this long to tackle it…

This cold, rainy (and in some parts, snowy) weather has John and me on cloud nine. There is something so satisfying about a tangible change of seasons…something that Southern California doesn’t really get to experience. Strangely enough, all this crazy weather has me pining for the holidays when I can go back home (to that place with no real weather) and celebrate the season there. It’s not even the big Thanksgiving meal or Christmas morning that has me super excited; it’s the little things. The smell of my parents’ house when the heater is on. Going Christmas shopping at the Topanga mall with my mom. Staying up late with my brother and laughing about everything. Going to Disneyland (best time of year to go!). Spending Christmas Eve with John’s family. Having breakfast with my family. Reuniting with friends over coffee. Wrapping gifts. The list goes on and I can’t wait!

And finally, there are a few things floating around the interwebs that I forgot to share! Over at Janelle’s blog, I wrote a post on thrifting. Over at the AC blog, you can read all about me and my hilarious co-workers. And as always, you can find my pinning like a madwoman over at my Pinterest.

Happy Saturday!

I’m still working on my Autumn Eleven minibook! And I haven’t lost interest yet! This is epic…

The newest pages all laid out together. Once I decide my book is complete, I will glue the backs of pages together and bind them with a jump ring. Until then, they will sit in a big stack on my desk. (:

I love the size of this book because it’s so easy to tote around the house and get to work on it (usually in front of the TV…when did I become such a TV-watcher? Yeesh!). Usually I’ll just put together a little basket of supplies, including my Dymo Label Maker (obsessed with that thing), adhesive, scraps of paper, a circle punch, teal Washi tape, and scissors. Okay, so that sounds like a lot of stuff for one little book, but compared to what I usually bust out on other projects, it’s positively minimalist! Ha!

I’m so happy that I’m still totally into getting this book together. But now that there’s snow in the mountains and my apartment is freezing cold (what a difference a week makes…last Friday I had the A/C cranking!), I’m starting to get excited about making a December Daily book! And you know what that means…the holidays are coming! Eeeek! I love to jump the gun on these things, in case you haven’t noticed (;

The past two weeks have been jam-packed with fun. Here’s the abridged version:

Saw the amazingly talented Jessica Hische at the local college with my co-workers.

Flew home to help Amy with an amazing event in LA. WOW is all I can say about it. Just wow. You can get the full scoop here, thanks to Paige.

John’s family came to visit this past weekend and we did just about everything you can do in Utah. It was such a blast and I really miss living closer to them.

On Friday, we visited Provo Canyon, Sundance, and Park City…whew! My favorite part of the day was having dinner and drinks at Blue Iguana. Good food, good company, good day.

On Saturday, we visited Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake, followed by a trip to Salt Lake and a quick stop at the Sweet Tooth Fairy (obviously).

On Sunday, we hiked up to the Timpanogos Caves. Holy moly, was that a hike! Great workout and gorgeous scenery.

And now I’ve got lots of material to include in my Autumn Eleven book! Photos to come…

Salt Lake City | September 2011

I could write a book on all the reasons I love Fall. Yes, I realize summer hasn’t exactly left the building just yet, but we have been enjoying cooler temps, shorter days, and changing leaves here in Utah…oh happy day! Today I picked up a Pumpkin Spice Latte on my lunch break and it has been inspiring me to list all the things I love about this season:

  • I’ve said it a million times before and I will say it again: boots, scarves, and sweaters! This is, after all, why I moved to Utah, right? (okay, that’s a lie). It’s the benefit to living in a landlocked state…you can actually wear all of your cute Fall attire during Fall without sweating profusely, like you do in California. (I still love you, CA). (Also, this has been one heck of a bullet point).
  • Fall foliage! Color color and more color! If you want to see proof, check this out.
  • As I already mentioned, pumpkin spice lattes! And I mean, full-fat, full-sugar, fully loaded PSL’s. This is the one place where you should absolutely, positively not attempt to cut calories.
  • Being able to leave the windows open and the A/C off all day long. I love how chilly it makes our apartment each morning and night.
  • Drinking tea after dinner, while snuggled up on the couch with John, while watching a little TV. Which reminds me…
  • The return of good TV! Parks + Rec, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, The Office, 30 Rock, Modern Family…the list goes on.
  • Looking forward to seeing Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge this coming November in SLC!
  • Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and all the decorating, shopping, and eating that goes with it.
  • Everything!
P.S. you can see more of my autumn inspiration on my pinboard here!

As Fall is approaching, I am getting more and more excited about the cooler weather, the vibrant autumn colors and quite frankly, breaking out the boots + scarves! But I’m also pretty psyched to put together an Autumn 2011 minibook. The last time I made one was two years ago when I was fresh out of college, unemployed,¬†and my endless amounts of free time were filled with daily bike rides with my BFF Liz, job-hunting, and scrapbooking. It’s funny how I look back on those days and wish I had that type of freedom again, but when I was in the thick of it, I felt horrible about myself and my lack of job prospects. Nevertheless, everything worked out (as it always does) and I really did enjoy making that little book and celebrating different Fall events. So here goes Round Two!

I decided that my best shot at actually seeing this book to completion (without losing interest two days in), is to only use Instagram photos sized at 4×4″ (printed via PostalPix). I always have my iPhone on me and I’m constantly Instagramming (new word, yo), so it makes sense to stick to that format. Additionally, I’m using a bunch of “old” (old as in older than last week – this industry moves at a breakneck pace!) papers that I had sitting in my stash. I still totally love each and every one of them, so why not put them to good use (even if they are ancient)?

I just placed an order with PostalPix this morning and I can’t wait to get started!

Two weekends ago I went to Target three times. Each time I went, I bought a new article of clothing. One of these days I will learn to shop like a normal person. But in the meantime…

Teal dress + brown belt = oh happy day! Plan on wearing this almost everyday.

Oh how I love pops of purple! Will definitely wear this on days I’m not wearing the teal dress.

What I will now refer to as my “Changeling” hat. I’ve never even seen the movie, but I sure do recognize the hat! Can’t wait to wear this when it gets cooler out. Yeah for bad hair days and good cover-ups!

I just had the most laid back, relaxing weekend EVER! Nothing but gym, crafts, hot showers, plenty of TV watching, a little hot chocolate sipping, and lots of sleep! All because it has suddenly turned into winter here (snow is officially in the mountains! see below!) and it was the perfect weekend to cozy up and stay in.

Anyways! Here are my projects that I did for the October Gallery over at Elle’s Studio. SO. MUCH. FUN. Which is exactly how scrapbooking should be, right?

And now, apparently, it’s winter too!

A quick and easy Halloween card. The more dimension and tags I can get on a project, the happier I am!

I was on a Fall layout kick, apparently! (But seriously, what’s not to love about Fall?)

Elle has SUPER cute Halloween tags that were just begging to be put into mini book form…so I happily obliged! The scalloped stamp is from her new Christmas stamps collection – I love how versatile it is! Have I mentioned how much I love mini books? I’ve already got plans for a Thanksgiving mini AND of course, my December Daily is ready to go! Good times…

Be sure to check out everyone’s amazing projects here! Thanks for stopping by!
