This is how my desk looked when I woke up this morning. Lots of unfinished projects just waiting to be cleaned up.

It’s interesting because I think of myself as an organized person, but somehow my actions always seem to tell a different story. I’d say I’m currently in one the most unorganized states I’ve ever been in, with half my stuff in storage and the other half jammed into my closet/under my bed. Gross. Visual clutter = mental clutter. Need to fix that, stat.

The second half of 2012 will be all about organizing every facet of my life! Even if it kills me!

(are you listening, universe?)

I realize I’m a little behind on choosing my word for 2012, but better late than never right? This is the year I want to:

Doesn’t it feel good to think of yourself as breaking out and breaking free?

Even though I love my life and all the wonderful things it encompasses, I often find myself stuck in ruts and limiting mindsets. This is the year I want to change that!

The first step is KNOWING that it’s possible to change and TRUSTING that it will happen. I have a tendency to box myself in and think, oh I could never do/see/be/enjoy/try that. But why can’t I? It’s never too late to change!

There’s so much that I want to experience in my life. This is the year I will summon the courage to seize those opportunities.

Who’s with me? (;

Well, I had grand plans of sharing my December Daily today, but I am not exactly thrilled with how the photos I took turned out. Here’s hoping I can take advantage of the daylight much earlier tomorrow! So in the meantime, I’ll just share a few things I’ve been thinking about lately (:

  • One of my new favorite things to do is go on walks on my lunch breaks. Despite the fact that we work in a very industrial/construction war-zone part of town, I love squeezing in a little exercise and listening to podcasts in the middle of my workday. It feels amazing to stretch my legs and breathe in some of that fresh – and cooold! – air. I’m going to try to keep it up as long as the weather permits…so far, so good!
  • Another thing that I want to pursue is to cook more often! Currently I cook, ummm…never, so anything I make will be a huge improvement! Ha! I think my number one goal is to actually enjoy cooking, since I’ve always been turned off by the whole measuring/waiting/cleaning-up-the-inevitable-mess situation. I love kitchen accessories, such as these and these and this, so maybe a little shopping will help me get in the right mindset (;
  • I’ve been thinking about the law of attraction a lot lately. Forgive me if this comes across as totally hokey, but I really do believe in it! I recently read over some of my journals from a few years ago and the main goals that I wrote about have since manifested themselves into reality. Believe in it or not, it’s a fascinating perspective on life.
  • I’ve been enjoying all the December Daily action on the interwebs lately! Some of my go-to sources for DD inspiration include Liz, Lisa, Kelly, Vee, Geralyn, and of course, Ali. Everyone’s rocking it this year!

There are so many things I want to do/ learn/ make right now! Here’s a small sampling, in no particular order:

– Sew a quilt.

– Make more pillows (inspired by this video).

– Start an Etsy.

-Throw a themed party, complete with fancy invites + decor.

– Write a book.

– Make video tutorials.

– Go all out on handmade holiday decorations (taking cues from this fabulous video).

– Learn to enjoy cooking. (Sidenote: this may or may not be feasible.)

– Make videos for other people.

– Sew curtains. (Inspired by the ones in this room).

– Build a website.

– Make a Blurb book with all my Instagram photos.

– Make hypertufa flower pots with my dad.

– Paint on cloth napkins.

– Order large prints of my favorite photos.

– Start designing holiday cards (it’s never too early, right?).

– Learn to really knit + crochet.

– Make my own clothes (might need to overcome my aversion to measuring first).

Holy last-day-of-the-world, the weather is SO nice today! The sunshine is getting me fired up for summer, so if we make it past 6pm tonight (sidenote: what timezone will this 6pm rapture commence? PST? MST? EST? I want to look presentable for the zombies), there are so many things I want to do/see/accomplish/experience/eat this coming season.

-Hike to the Timpanogos Caves.

-See the Great Salt Lake.

-Take a bunch of stuff to the DI so someone else can enjoy it and I can free up space.

-Work on a sales pitch to convince family members to come visit.

-Start a new Etsy. For real this time.

-Go to all the fairs/festivals around here. Llama Fest, anyone?

-Take advantage of our location and go see neighboring states.

-Drive to Yellowstone.

-Finish decorating my apartment.

-Eat somewhere new-to-me at least twice a month.

Hike the Y.

-Try all the classes at the gym. So many good ones to choose from!

-Go on bike rides often. Recruit friends to join.

-Go the local farmer’s markets! Really excited about this one!

-Scrapbook more often.

-Make as many videos as I possibly can. Maybe even video blogs?

-Try new recipes. And by this I mean, find new recipes and give them to John to try. Trust me, he’s WAY better at it.

-Go to Craft Lake City!

-Get hooked on a TV series via Netflix. So far we’ve done: Flight of the Conchords + Big Love. Both of which were amazing.

-Go to the movies as much as possible. I’ve only seen one (!) movie in theaters since moving here almost a year ago.

-See all Utah’s art + natural history museums. Maybe even a pioneer museum or two!

-Constantly have a book to read. I just finished Bossypants and I already want to read it again.

-Take as many photos as I possibly can.

Why yes, I did skip making public goals for the months of February and March, but April is just as good as any to start back up!

This month we have a few fun adventures lined up. I can’t remember the last time I had two weekends in a row booked solid with nonstop F-U-N! So, in honor of our trips to California and Vegas, I resolve to:

SAVE MONEY. For real this time, Ann-Marie! Disneyland does not come cheap. Neither does gas to get to Vegas. Nor does food (have I ever told you how much I despise spending money on food? I have such a complex over it). And honestly, how many more dresses do I need to own? Well, maybe just a few more…

START A NEW ETSY. Two years ago, I had a little Etsy biz, but somewhere along the line, I lost interest in it. However, I now have a new perspective on it and I want to start a brand new shop, with brand new items, with a brand new name! NEW! NEW! NEW! I am quite excited about it. I just need to start.

BE MORE SOCIAL. I realize that the frequency of my blog posts can be rather…infrequent. I want to change this! I love blogging, but sometimes I feel as though I have nothing exciting to share. So get ready, everyone! Here come the mundane details of my everyday life. [And occasional John cameos, for those of you checking to see if he’s still alive ūüėČ ]

I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by! Heck, I can’t even believe how quickly the holidays flew by! (Do I really have to take down the tree already?)

2010 was a FABULOUS year, filled with big, fat, honkin’ changes! Never in a million years did I think I would be in Utah on this very night!

Instead of doing a yearlong resolution, I want to set new goals for each month (totally inspired by The Happiness Project). I’d like to think it will keep things fresh and exciting so I will be more inclined to actually do them.

So for January, I resolve to:

Check out books from the library. I LOVE having new material to read without having to pay a dime. And the Provo Library is spectacular.

Work out at least 4 times a week. In the past, I would have balked at the idea of only working out four times a week, but for right now, it feels totally attainable.

Finish up my December Daily album. Every year I run out of steam by the middle of it, but not this time!

I’ve been forcing myself to run lately. And I’m kinda liking it.

I’ve never been a fan of running. Even when I¬†knowingly joined the track team in high school, for not one but TWO years. Although I have to admit joining the team had very little to do with running. It had very¬†much do with a certain boy and a certain track sweatshirt (see above). Totally worth it for that sweatshirt alone. But I digress…

Anyways, I consider myself a very active person who works out¬†almost everyday. Hiking, biking, rollerblading, kickboxing, tae-boing (correct verbage? hahaha!), elliptical-ing, walking, Spinning, strength training, Jillian Michaels-ing, shopping til I drop…I’m down for any of these things at anytime. But running? Ehhhh…

But, thanks to the inspiration of some very good (and very fit) friends, I am newly inspired. Sarah is a crazy multi-marathoner. Jaymee runs various races ending in the letter “K.” Heather and Angie did 13.1 miles like it was nothing. I mean, come on! How can you have friends like this and not be totally motivated? Plus, Jaymee just introduced me to the most hilarious/inspiring running blog called SkinnyRunner (I think I’ve read almost half her blog already, I feel an obsession coming on!).

I just wanted to put this out there, if for no other reason than to remind myself months from now, oh yeah, I did do that newfangled workout trend called running. Go me. HA!

why I have been MIA from the blogging world for so long, but now I am back and I have lots to share!

First of all, I am happy to report that I have began to put a dent in my happy list! For the past two days, John and I have gone hiking about an hour before sunset in the hills where we live. I have to say…it has been magical! It is the perfect time of day to take in the sweeping views, breathe in fresh air, take lots of vibrant photos, and allow just enough time to head back¬†in before the mountain lions make an appearance!

(I promise, we hike on real paths, not just paved roads in the middle of suburbia! Ha!)

I feel compelled to tell you…I got this shirt today at Target for $2.50!¬†Sarah, are you proud of me?? Haha!

In other resolution-fulfilling news, I have been feeling mighty creative lately and have cranked out the last few pages for my Holiday 2009 book! And what a joy it has been to be in a crafting mood again!

Latest obsession: creating hidden journaling spots, a¬†la the “But wait, there’s more” tab on the left layout.

Can’t seem to finish a layout these days without a touch of measuring tape and ribbon!

Layout on the right is one of my new faves. I hadn’t meant for the Hambly body-form rub-on to go over the photo, but when it accidentally touched and wouldn’t lift off, I decided I really liked it there! LOVE rub-ons! So fun.

Envelope contains photos from a¬†day spent in Glendale, enjoying the Christmas festivities. Easier to house the majority of the pictures in an envelope while featuring just one photo as the “representative”, if you will.

One thing I thought would be fun to have in my book was screenshots of websites I frequent and use them as a documentation of where I was at this time. I really loved playing with them and can’t wait to do it more often!

This particular envelope contains Christmas lists, tags, and little bits and pieces of the season that I know will be fun to look back on at a¬†later date. The grey pouch on the right layout is from an old Abercrombie shirt that I bought years ago! It used to hold spare buttons, but now it is featured in my book! Love how recycling can take on so many forms…

I hope you all are fulfilling your Happy Lists as well! If you haven’t composed one yet, what are you waiting for???

There is so much fun to be had!
