I don’t know if it’s my “recycle, reduce, reuse” California upbringing (anyone else remember that song??) or if it’s simply my personal inclination to hoard anything made from a tree, but the thought of throwing away something that can easily be repurposed pains me. Especially anything from Anthropologie. (Have you ever watched an Anthro employee wrap a gift with the quintessential brown tissue paper + that giant washi tape dispenser? It is a true delight, my friends.) The other day while I was organizing all my various packaging supplies, I realized that the paper quality of an Anthro bag would be perfect for creating envelopes!

The process of turning a paper bag into an envelope is as basic as you would imagine. First, I cut out one side of the bag (the side that doesn’t fold up) and turned it over to the backside. Using a 4-bar Paper Source envelope template as my guide, I traced the shape with a pencil and then cut it out by hand. Next, I folded up all the flaps, adhered with a tape runner, and applied a liberal amount of washi tape. Done and done!

Tis the season to repurpose!

While designing this year’s holiday cards, I realized I never shared the ones I made for last year! So here they are:

2011 Holiday Cards | Ann-Marie Loves Paper
Holiday Cards 2011  | Ann-Marie Loves Paper
Holiday Cards 2011 | Ann-Marie Loves Paper

Lots of Crate Paper, kraft cardstock + a few custom stamps = happy 2011! While I was thrilled with how they turned out (nothing better than a fat stack of handmade cards!), I had no idea how long the process would take. It took FOR-E-VER. But as we all know, I totally live for this stuff, so I was more than happy to spend hours and hours cranking them out.

My 2012 cards are slightly less involved (I learned my lesson!), but still handmade – I can’t wait to show you!

Admittedly, scrapbooking and I have had a pretty rocky relationship this year.

I was always happy to do it as a job, but when it came down to my own free time, it just wasn’t high on my list of priorities anymore. But somehow, someway, probably by the grace of a Christmas miracle, the lure of the December Daily reigned me in again and I have to say…it feels good to be back! I love this time of year for so many reasons, but one of my favorite parts is all the paper that’s involved: the packaging, the holiday cards, the “to & from” tags, the Starbucks red cups, the wish lists, the receipts, the gift cards, the shopping bags…the list goes on and on. Needless to say, having a December Daily to house all these treasures is a MUST.

I’m so excited to be contributing some of my pages and tips + tricks to Studio Calico’s 25 Days class (registration closes TONIGHT!), but of course, there will be plenty for me to share here (and the ‘gram!) as well.

xoxo

P.S. You can see my take on December Daily from last year right here.

From the moment I met Val in sixth grade, I knew we would become great friends. Fast forward thirteen years later and my instincts proved correct: she is still one of my nearest + dearest friends (even though she currently lives in Washington) and I loved being able to take photos of her adorable family last week.

A wise future mother-in-law of mine once said: “Photos are only as good as the subjects in them.” (HA!)

Well Keps, I’d say you did your part (;

I am so happy (and so relieved) to announce that my new stamps are officially up in my brand new shop! It took way longer than I anticipated to pull everything together, but now that it is finally done, I am so thrilled with the results!

I can’t even tell you how much I agonized over how I wanted things to look. I shot and re-shot everything three separate times. That’s approximately 5 million photos and two days straight of editing right there. The first two times, it just didn’t feel right…you know that feeling? I wanted to be proud of it. I wanted to be excited about it. I wanted it to be an accurate representation of how I envision my brand. Well, third time’s the charm! Halle-freakin-lujah.

There’s still a few more stamps that need to be shot + listed. I will definitely keep you posted when those go up! And thank you so much for your patience! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts (:

But in the meantime…I’m going to bed!

Congratulations Kathryne! Shoot me an e-mail (annmarie.morris15@gmail.com) with your address and I will send your stamp out right away!

Thank you all for entering the giveaway! I thoroughly enjoyed reading each and every one of your Fall traditions and am mildly (okay, wildly) envious of anything involving hot drinks + cold weather. Must be nice (;

In other news, I am spending the better part of today styling and shooting my new holiday stamps (debuting November 1st!). I’ve been so torn over how I want my holiday styling to look. I love rustic + earthy just as much as I love bright + bold. Knowing my track record, there will probably be a healthy dose of neon involved. Can’t wait to show you what I have up my sleeve!

You guys, I have a new obsession that is taking my life by storm: custom pencils!

I recently had a bunch made in a variety of colors with a few different phrases and I can’t wait to share them all with you next week. As you can see by the photo, I had my brand name engraved on a set of hot pink pencils (obvious color choice?) and I want to get your thoughts on something: would it be totally weird / totally awesome if I stuck a pencil with “Ann-Marie Loves Paper” in my shop orders? Would you use them? Snap them in half? I’m thinking it would be a fun little “gift” to include with all orders during the holidays. Tis the season to be jolly, after all. Let me know how you feel about this whole pencil biz. I am genuinely interested in your opinions.

Happy Friday!

xoxo

p.s. I am totally doing a giveaway tomorrow. Of the stamp variety. Stay tuned.

Okay, so maybe I’m not really dreaming of winter per se, but this kind of weather (read: HOT) has me desperately longing for colder days.

Not Antarctican days, but definitely boots + scarves kind of days. The kind of days where you don’t wake up sweating and can actually stand to drink your coffee without throwing in ten ice cubes right off the bat (oh, that’s just me? hmm…).

So when I saw this stamp set from Ink + Wit a few weeks back, I knew I had to have it. Hello 2012 holiday cards!

A little planning (four months) ahead never hurt anyone (;

New Years Eve photo courtesy of Sarah Champion.

Another year already. I can’t even believe it.

2011 was a spectacular year full of wonderful memories that I will treasure forever. It marked one year in Utah. Ten trips home. Discovered new places. Seven years with John. Met some fantastic new friends. Went to my first CHA. Started a new Etsy. Got an iPhone. Became obsessed with Instagram. Made a bunch of minibooks. Decorated and redecorated my apartment. Enjoyed lots of fun classes at the gym. Entered a craft fair. Went to beaches, lakes, mountains, and islands. Loved having visitors stay with us. Made many a trip to the thrift store. Saw wildlife. Treasured time with family and friends. Cut my hair short and decided to grow it out. Met the first baby from my group of friends. Six trips to D-Land. Five journals filled. Drove the long road to Vegas. Grew accustomed to snow. One wedding attended. Tried several new restaurants. Found my favorite neighborhood in Utah. A million trips to Target.

And now I am so excited to kick off another year. I love a fresh start and a new opportunity to make things bigger and better than before. I have a feeling this year is going to be the best one yet!

Happy 2012!!!
