Here’s what I’ve been up to lately, thanks to the greatest invention of all time (aside from air conditioning, of course), Instagram!

1. Spent an afternoon in Ventura laying in the sand (in my jeans…lord help me and beach fashion choices) and soaking up the sunshine!

2. Packing lots of orders (thank you to everyone!) and watching lots and lots of Brothers and Sisters.

3. Getting organized and set up in my new (okay, actually old) space.

4. Watched the most amazing sunset over La Jolla last week. Thoroughly enjoyed being in San Diego. Miss it terribly. The rainy weather reminded me of being in college and everyone skipping class because of a little drizzle. We Southern Californians are not the most…waterproof.

5. Trader Joe’s, Trader Joe’s, and more Trader Joe’s. Making up for lost time.

6. Project Life-ing! And who cares if I’m a whole month behind sched? (Not me). Hoping to wrap up moving week tomorrow!

Have I mentioned that I love being home? Because I do.

In the week I’ve been here I’ve: hiked the local hills, had my morning coffee outside, took a trip to Disneyland, sat in traffic on the 405, enjoyed a vanilla latte from Coffee Bean, reunited with family and friends, slept in, shopped at my favorite mall, had long talks with my parents, worked from home, attempted to unpack all my stuff, listened to my favorite LA radio stations, snuggled with all the pups in my life, and reveled daily in the fact that I’m back in California.

Still on the to-do list: beach, Trader Joe’s, Urbanic, Paper Source, Pasadena, more time with loved ones, a trip up the coast to San Luis Obispo, a trip down the coast to San Diego, Rosebowl Flea Market, Pizookie at BJ’s, be a tourist, and catch up on Project Life for goodness’ sake! (;

I spent this whole morning going through photos and memorabilia from my NYC trip and am overwhelmed at the amount of STUFF I want to include in my Project Life. I really want to whip it out while the memories are fresh and I’m still excited about it, but where in the world do I start???

To be continued…

As far back as I can remember, I’ve always loved reading. In fact, one of my most vivid memories from childhood is when I had strep throat in second grade, and my mom bought me a new American Girls book to read while I laid on the couch all day. Heaven (well, about as heavenly as strep throat can be).

Nowadays I usually have a few different reads going at one time. Here’s the current stack on my nightstand:

1. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling /// Given that I am a huge fan of Kelly Rajnigandha Kapoor (remember that episode?) and I LOL at real-life Mindy Kaling’s hilarious twitter feed on a daily basis, this was a no-brainer.

2. Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul by Deepak Chopra /// I know for fact that if I was a teenager in the sixties, I would have been a hippie. I love anything new-agey and whole foodsy and insightful. I took a meditation class in college and LOVED it. I turn to this book whenever I am seeking inspiration or feeling emotionally drained.

3. Then Again by Diane Keaton /// For some reason, I am completely enamored with Diane Keaton lately. She has a such a presence in the art, real estate, and fashion worlds (not to mention acting) and I am totally fascinated.

Well, I had grand plans of sharing my December Daily today, but I am not exactly thrilled with how the photos I took turned out. Here’s hoping I can take advantage of the daylight much earlier tomorrow! So in the meantime, I’ll just share a few things I’ve been thinking about lately (:

  • One of my new favorite things to do is go on walks on my lunch breaks. Despite the fact that we work in a very industrial/construction war-zone part of town, I love squeezing in a little exercise and listening to podcasts in the middle of my workday. It feels amazing to stretch my legs and breathe in some of that fresh – and cooold! – air. I’m going to try to keep it up as long as the weather permits…so far, so good!
  • Another thing that I want to pursue is to cook more often! Currently I cook, ummm…never, so anything I make will be a huge improvement! Ha! I think my number one goal is to actually enjoy cooking, since I’ve always been turned off by the whole measuring/waiting/cleaning-up-the-inevitable-mess situation. I love kitchen accessories, such as these and these and this, so maybe a little shopping will help me get in the right mindset (;
  • I’ve been thinking about the law of attraction a lot lately. Forgive me if this comes across as totally hokey, but I really do believe in it! I recently read over some of my journals from a few years ago and the main goals that I wrote about have since manifested themselves into reality. Believe in it or not, it’s a fascinating perspective on life.
  • I’ve been enjoying all the December Daily action on the interwebs lately! Some of my go-to sources for DD inspiration include Liz, Lisa, Kelly, Vee, Geralyn, and of course, Ali. Everyone’s rocking it this year!

-Throw a themed party, complete with fancy invites + decor.

– Write a book.

– Build a website.

– Make a Blurb book with all my Instagram photos.

– Make hypertufa flower pots with my dad.

Holy last-day-of-the-world, the weather is SO nice today! The sunshine is getting me fired up for summer, so if we make it past 6pm tonight (sidenote: what timezone will this 6pm rapture commence? PST? MST? EST? I want to look presentable for the zombies), there are so many things I want to do/see/accomplish/experience/eat this coming season.

-Hike to the Timpanogos Caves.

-See the Great Salt Lake.

-Take a bunch of stuff to the DI so someone else can enjoy it and I can free up space.

-Work on a sales pitch to convince family members to come visit.

-Start a new Etsy. For real this time.

-Go to all the fairs/festivals around here. Llama Fest, anyone?

-Take advantage of our location and go see neighboring states.

-Drive to Yellowstone.

-Finish decorating my apartment.

-Eat somewhere new-to-me at least twice a month.

Hike the Y.

-Try all the classes at the gym. So many good ones to choose from!

-Go on bike rides often. Recruit friends to join.

-Go the local farmer’s markets! Really excited about this one!

-Scrapbook more often.

-Make as many videos as I possibly can. Maybe even video blogs?

-Try new recipes. And by this I mean, find new recipes and give them to John to try. Trust me, he’s WAY better at it.

-Go to Craft Lake City!

-Get hooked on a TV series via Netflix. So far we’ve done: Flight of the Conchords + Big Love. Both of which were amazing.

-Go to the movies as much as possible. I’ve only seen one (!) movie in theaters since moving here almost a year ago.

-See all Utah’s art + natural history museums. Maybe even a pioneer museum or two!

-Constantly have a book to read. I just finished Bossypants and I already want to read it again.

-Take as many photos as I possibly can.

Lately I’ve been back on the tumblr bandwagon and have come across some super inspiring things!

ONE. Makes me want to take apart my whole apartment and curate everything! (P.S. The whole Kate Spade tumblr feed is a treasure trove of inspiring images!)

TWO. I want my workdays to feel like this! Lunch at a coffeeshop. Smart phone. Notebook + pen. Bracelet + ring. Yes please!

THREE. Burning City by Michael Cina. THE COLORS! So cool. Obsessed with splattery paintings.

Because of my newfound love of illustration, I’ve been coming across the most visually inspiring blogs EVER.

ANNA BOND. Now, I’ve been a longtime fan of Anna’s work at Rifle Paper Co. but I had never read her personal blog before. Holy Moly! I love it so much that I read the whole thing as fast as I could. She is seriously talented and I LOVE this video about her.

LISA RUPP. I discovered Lisa’s gorgeous drawings through my co-workers and could not be more impressed. I am seriously loving her simple yet stunning style. Plus, she’s got a fun inspiration blog here.

YELLENA JAMES. I mean, just look at her work! That is all pen and ink. INSANE! Her work was even featured as part of the set design on Modern Family! If that’s not the coolest thing ever, then I don’t know what is.

This week I’ve been super inspired by the blog world.

one: Jana Laurene. I love her candid blogging style and gorgeous photography.

two: Lisa Rupp. Website and blog. I am so enamored with her simple illustrations.

three: Sydney Poulton. Her blog is just fashion inspiration central. And I’m kind of obsessed with her perfect bangs.

Enjoy!
