Last week I got a fun e-mail from Urbanic letting me know that I had won their giveaway from The Cream…! I can’t even tell you how excited I was, especially about this¬†wedding planning binder that I’ve had my eye on for quite some time. The truth is, I didn’t even get a good look at the prize while I was at the event, but as a matter of principle, I always throw my name in the hat if Urbanic is hosting a giveaway. Always.

While I was down in Venice, I decided to wander around a bit, pick up a latte from Intelligentsia (even if I do feel entirely uncool while I’m there), stop by Firefly (another great little boutique!), and take a bunch of photos before the braving the 405 at rush hour. Totally worth it.

An oceanfront room overlooking La Jolla Cove. Shopping at Typo + Paper Tales. A trip up to Julian for pie + coffee. Breakfast on the roof of our hotel every morning. Rain + sunshine followed by more rain + sunshine. A walk around Balboa Park before heading home. And the real clincher: wedding venue hunting! We found two possible contenders, but are definitely in the market for other options. If you know of any great locations (anywhere in Southern California!), I would love to hear about them!

This past Saturday marked my first trip to a Renegade Craft Fair and it most definitely lived up to the hype! There were SO MANY AMAZING VENDORS. Seriously. I was blown away not just by the artists and their products, but by the packaging, the booth decor, the business cards…you know, the good stuff that makes buying handmade worth every extra penny.

Did any other locals get the chance to visit? Do tell!

Like I mentioned in my birthday list, 2012 has been the year of destination weddings. And I am such a fan.

Two weeks ago, my good friend Jaymee had the most amazing wedding in Santa Barbara. And even though SB is only an hour north of where we live, John and I decided to turn the long weekend into a mini vacation. It definitely turned out to be one of the best ideas we’ve had in the many years we’ve been together. The first night we stayed near the harbor in Ventura and the next two nights were spent in picturesque Carpinteria. During the day, we traipsed all over Solvang, Santa Barbara, Montecito, and even Oxnard for a little Cafe Rio.

In case I haven’t mentioned it in the past fifteen minutes or so, I LOVE California. End of story.

A new camera = zero self-restraint for me in the photography department. All I want to do these days is take photos of anything! And everything! All at the same time! Needless to say, I’m in love. In love with 18 megapixels. In love with the colors in that sunset. In love with California (despite it’s insistence upon summer weather forever). In love with going, seeing, doing, and having visual proof of it all.

Last night my friend Janelle and I attended Oh Joy’s book signing and Q+A event in LA and had such a great time. It’s always fun to go to these kinds of parties¬†because they really bring the big-name bloggers out of the woodwork (like this one! and this one!). And let’s get real: there’s nothing we love more than a little people-watching of the blogger variety. Every detail about the event was impeccable…the location, the decor, the Smilebooth. But then again, I wouldn’t expect anything less from the queen of design.

1. You guys, it’s hot outside. Like really hot. Yesterday I searched “why is it so (effing) hot in September” and Google just could not provide me with a solid answer. Disappointing, to say the least. Nonetheless, this month is just trucking along which can only mean one thing: the holidays are almost here! A few weeks back, I spent a little bit of time working on mock-ups for holiday cards and stamp designs for the upcoming season. All while it was 100+ degrees outside. Sounds about right.

2. On Friday I was lucky enough to meet up with my good friend Sarah + her husband Mike at Warner Brothers to take the VIP tour (led by her brother). It was the best. Really. We’re both pop culture fiends (we took the NBC tour together while in NYC last March), so it was super exciting to go behind the scenes. (Thrilling, actually.) There are a few things that I miss about Utah and Sarah is at the very top of that list.

3. While in San Diego last weekend, I spent a considerable amount of time digging through antique stores, looking for postcards of places that I’ve lived. I may or may not be planning out wedding decor in my head. Don’t tell anyone.

4. Last weekend, John and I stopped in Orange for a little Which ‘Wich (good lord, we’re obsessed) and right next door was a cute cupcake shop called Sugar Me Bakery. Quite honestly, it was the well-designed logo that caught my attention (design is everything, after all) and got me to spend a few dollars on super-rich cupcakes.

5. Anthropologie’s Fall decor. Need I say more? Sigh.

6. I’ve been to a different beach every weekend for the past couple of weeks and I plan on continuing this winning streak. Need to make up for all the time lost in landlocked Utah!

Instagram is life.

This past weekend, John and I headed south to San Diego for an overnight getaway. We spent the night in Old Town, shopped at the swap meet, browsed the antique stores on Newport Avenue, walked the pier in Ocean Beach, ate breakfast on the patio, and spent lots of quality time together. Just the two of us.

We don’t see that much of each other these days, so it was the perfect way for us to catch up and reconnect in one of our favorite cities. I’m already looking forward to our next adventure this coming Fall!

This past weekend in San Diego was quite successful when it came to finding new desk supplies that I probably didn’t need, but let’s face it, I totally needed. Between a visit to the swap meet and a stop at Fashion Valley Mall where I discovered my new favorite shop, Typo, I came home with some real gems.

I’m taking this stroke of luck as a sign that I need to move back to San Diego. Like, yesterday.

stamps, teal scissors, tape dispenser, double hole punch (a gift from Amy!): typo // stapler, red fringe scissors: kobey swap meet // neon pink ink: paper source // yellow tape: target
